Choose your position on the hill
Pratumnak, also written Pratamnak or Phra Tamnak, sits south of Pattaya Bay and north of Jomtien. The hill includes residential sois, beach-facing accommodation and the Big Buddha temple. A place beside Thappraya puts the main road close by; a room above Cosy Beach puts the cove on your side of the hill.
| Position | Choose it for | The compromise |
|---|---|---|
| Cosy Beach side, on the western shore | Staying by the cove or in accommodation above it | Check the descent to the beach and the uphill return, as well as the road entrance |
| Numbered Pratumnak sois, including Sois 4, 5 and 6 | The western shore; Soi 5 leads towards Yinyom Beach | Your beach route depends on the soi and the building; the sea-view side is not always the entrance side |
| Thappraya side, towards the eastern edge | Being closer to the main road towards Pattaya or Jomtien | The beach is across the hill or down a side street; check road crossings and room position |
Our pick: choose the shore first if you want to spend most days on the beach. Choose the exact building and its approach to Thappraya if you expect to leave the area often. A map pin halfway between Pattaya and Jomtien is not enough to make the accommodation convenient for both.
For a long beachfront, compare Jomtien. For central nightlife and shops, compare Central Pattaya. Pratumnak suits a trip built around its coves or a hillside property, with transport for nights in the centre.
Getting to the sand
Cosy Beach is a cove on the western side of the hill. A stairway leads down to Cosy Beach. Ask your accommodation which approach you will use: a hotel entrance on the road above the beach can still leave stairs between you and the sand.
Yinyom Beach lies further south on the western shore, towards the lower end of the numbered sois. Pratumnak Soi 5 runs towards this part of the coast. Dongtan Beach continues along the southern shore towards Jomtien. Ask which beach your accommodation uses and how you reach it.
If stairs or hills are difficult for you, ask for photographs of the full route from the entrance to the sand and details of any lift or step-free alternative. A sea-view room or “beach access” label cannot answer that on its own. Choose a place with an approach you can use comfortably, including the return uphill.
The viewpoint and Big Buddha are separate stops
The Pattaya viewpoint is on the northern part of the hill above the bay. Wat Phra Yai, usually called Big Buddha, is further south. Save them as separate destinations when arranging a ride.
The driver card below names Big Buddha. Use your accommodation’s own name and entrance pin for hotel trips. At the temple, dress respectfully and follow the signs.
Arriving and getting around
For a Suvarnabhumi arrival, the Jomtien airport route is one option: it normally finishes at Jomtien bus station, followed by an onward trip to your accommodation. Airport departures are every hour from 06:00 to 22:00 (the 22:00 bus ends at Pattaya bus station, not Jomtien). Compare that route with a direct transfer in the airport guide.
Save the property entrance before boarding the airport bus. At the terminal, give the driver its full name and pin. “Pratumnak Hill” covers different sois and shore-facing properties.
Thappraya Road runs along the eastern side towards Pattaya and Jomtien. Phra Tamnak Road serves the hill, with the numbered sois branching west. For door-to-door travel, use a car; if you take a shared baht bus, confirm its route and allow for the trip from your stop to the property. The transport guide and baht-bus guide explain the options.
You can plan a trip here around car rides. A scooter is a separate decision, with its own licence, helmet and insurance requirements covered in the safety guide.
Nights out from Pratumnak
For Walking Street, LK Metro or Soi 6, plan the outward journey and the ride home. Walking Street’s bay-end entrance and Bali Hai end are different pickup positions; choose the one you actually leave by.
Save your hotel entrance pin before going out. For the return, choose a pickup point where a car can stop and check the fare before confirming.
Before booking
On a longer stay, check key handover, laundry and the route to the main road. If you are choosing Pratumnak for sleep, ask what sits below and beside the room and which way the windows face.
If most days involve leaving the hill and most nights involve the central streets, weigh that travel against staying in Central Pattaya. If your main plan is a long beach and local evenings, read the Jomtien guide. The where-to-stay chooser compares both with Pratumnak.
