The short answer

Pattaya is a grid along the bay: nightlife is concentrated between Beach Road and Soi Buakhao, quiet is north (Naklua) and on the Pratumnak hill, and the long beach is south in Jomtien. Filter the cards below and save the places that fit.

Pattaya is a grid laid along the bay. Beach Road, Second Road, Soi Buakhao, Third Road and Sukhumvit Road run north to south; the numbered sois and a few big roads cross them. Jomtien sits south, over the Pratumnak headland.

How the city fits together

The tourist city is a narrow grid between the bay and Sukhumvit Road. Pattaya Beach runs about 2.7 km along the bay. Beach Road follows it, with Second Road one block inland and Soi Buakhao further inland again.

The three big cross roads, North, Central and South Pattaya Road, split the grid into rough thirds. Walking Street is the southern end of Beach Road. Soi 6 is one of the numbered lanes between Beach Road and Second Road, north of Central Pattaya Road.

South of the bay, the Pratumnak headland separates Pattaya from Jomtien, and Thappraya Road runs over it. Jomtien lies about 3 km south of Pattaya, with a beach about 6 km long.

Trade-off: It is hilly and spread out: you will use taxis or a scooter for most things.
