What counts as Central Pattaya
Central Pattaya is the middle third of the bay, roughly between North and South Pattaya Roads, with Central Pattaya Road through its middle. The Central Pattaya mall on Beach Road is the landmark every driver knows. The Thai name for it is on the driver card below.
Beach Road, Second Road or the Soi Buakhao side
- Beach Road faces the sea. It has the view and the big hotels, plus the traffic and the baht buses heading south.
- Second Road, one block inland, is the parallel commercial road where the baht buses head north. It’s quieter than Beach Road in some stretches and busier in others. The sois between the two roads include Soi 6 and a string of bar lanes.
- The Soi Buakhao side, further inland, is budget hotels, markets and beer bars. Beach Road is under a kilometre away on foot. See the Soi Buakhao guide.
Noise: choose the room, not just the hotel
Be clear-eyed about Central and South Pattaya: noise is the price of convenience, and it isn’t a family area after dark. A bar with live music below your window keeps playing regardless of what the listing says.
- Ask where the room is. A high floor at the back is the standard advice.
- Check the map before booking. Look at what sits directly beneath and beside the hotel.
Nights out from here
- Soi 6 is between Beach Road and Second Road, north of Central Pattaya Road, and walkable from most central hotels.
- Walking Street is at the south end of Beach Road. Walk or take a baht bus south.
- LK Metro and Tree Town are on the Soi Buakhao side, a short walk or ride inland.
Late at night, ride-hailing is the easy way back.
Who should stay elsewhere
- Light sleepers: look at Pratumnak or Naklua.
- Beach-first travellers: Jomtien has the longer, calmer beach.
- Tight budgets that want nightlife on the doorstep: Soi Buakhao usually gives more for the money.
